Description:
Possessing an abundance of natural desert terrain and with soaring expectations
following the success of the Ocean Course, the master of desert golf, Tom Weiskopf,
was called upon to create a second masterpiece at Cabo del Sol. He did not disappoint.
The Desert Course at Cabo del Sol is a classic desert course and considered by
many as one of Weiskopf's finest designs. The Desert Course is Los Cabos' newest
challenge and a perfect complement to The Ocean Course.
The Desert Course at Cabo del Sol marks one of Tom Weiskopf's first forays
into Latin America. This 18-hole target-style course fuses desert, ocean and
mountain terrain into a championship layout destined for world recognition.
In Weiskopf's opinion, "with its dramatic views of the Sea of Cort?s,
The Desert Course at Cabo del Sol is one of the most unique desert layouts I've
designed. The natural beauty of desert, mountain and ocean provides an ideal
setting and some of the best terrain for golf anywhere in the world."
Locals and guests who have discovered this hidden gem couldn't agree more.
With an enticing blend of teasingly short then back breaking long par 4's, along
with three-shot par 5's followed by easily reachable 5 pars, the course takes
the golfer on a roller coaster round as it winds its way through lush desert
landscape and canyon-like arroyos above the Ocean Course and the Sea of Cortez.
Weiskopf himself has called the Desert Course "one of the most scenic
courses" he has designed. This masterpiece features mesmerizing views of
the Sea of Cortez from every hole, something every golfer will surely enjoy,
and incorporates traditional bunkering, expansive greens, wide fairways, multiple
tee areas, and natural desert landscape to ensure an enjoyable golf experience
for players of all levels. This local secret is spreading quickly, and many
feel that visiting Cabo without playing the Desert Course is certainly an opportunity
missed.
One of the many memorable holes on the Desert Course is the par four 18th hole,
which is a gorgeous downhill trek with the Sea of Cortez looming as a dramatic
backdrop. Off the tees, golfers must avoid a meandering creek that runs along
the entire left side of the fairway before crossing the approach and cascading
into the lake that guards the front and right of the green. The downhill second
shot requires accuracy to the generous, undulating green that is protected by
the lake and bunker on the right. This picturesque finishing hole will linger
in your memory long after you have completed your round.
Overall course yardage varies from 4,810 to 7,097 yards, with greens ranging
from 5,000 to 7,500 square feet with gentle, subtle rolls and elevation changes.
The bunkering is intense around the greens, yet the course is very playable.
Wide yet containing fairway corridors afford golfers great visual appeal off
the tee.
